With increasing pressure on coastal ecosystems and coral reefs, particularly in the Aceh region, there arose an urgent need to volve the younger generation in marine conservation efforts. Ibnu Husada, a Fisheries graduate from Universitas Utara (Class of 2020), stepped up to meet this challenge. After working for approximately four years in the field of marine biology, he witnessed firsthand the impact of marine ecosystem degradation on coastal communities, especially traditional fishermen.
Recognizing the great potential of Aceh's youth and the ongoing threats to the region's rich marine biodiversity, Ibnu founded Aceh Aquatic Youth on August 24, 2025 This organization focuses on marine education, coral reef conservation, and empowering coastal communities through a science-based and action-oriented approach.
Aceh Aquatic Youth began by raising awareness among students, university communities, and the general public about the importance of protecting the ocean.
Educational materials and field trainings were developed to introduce coral reef ecology, monitoring techniques, and community-based restoration methods. Together with young volunteers, they started establishing coral nurseries at several coastal sites in Aceh, including areas damaged by human activity and climate change.
